The Sav-A-Life Ministry
Each year, 9000 women in Alabama believe that abortion is the only solution to an unplanned pregnancy. Sav-A-Life, Vestavia is the largest pregnancy care center in the Birmingham metropolitan area and is dedicated to putting an end to abortion not by legal and public policy, but by supporting one woman at a time, to spare her and her child from abortion.
We work to accomplish this goal by offering free and confidential services, counseling, education, and support to empower women to carry their babies to term.
We offer free pregnancy testing, ultrasound, prenatal assessment, STI/STD testing for men and women, childbirth education classes, parenting classes, and fatherhood programming.
We provide a safe, friendly, and non-judgmental environment where clients can discuss their fears and concerns and receive vital information regarding their health, pregnancy, and options. Trained staff and volunteers offer confidential Christian counseling for men and women.
Counseling topics include:
- Pregnancy options
- Abortion risks and long-term effects
- Fetal development
- Emergency contraceptives (morning after pill and RU-486)
- The Gospel
Trained staff and volunteers educate both women and men about the alternatives to abortion, risks and long-term effects of abortion, emergency contraceptives, and sexually transmitted infections. With this knowledge, clients are empowered to make informed decisions and bring needed restoration their lives.
Our services aren't just a one-time meeting. The mentoring department is designed to build relationships with our clients and their families by offering one-on-one mentoring that provides confidential Christian counseling, support, and prayer. Bible studies, support groups, and peer counseling are also part of the relationship building process.
In addition, Sav-A-Life offers material assistance through the Stork's Nest Clothes Closet. Clients earn Mommy Money
and Daddy Dollars
by attending various classes and can use these to purchase much needed baby items, such as diapers, baby and maternity clothing, strollers, cribs and more.
Sav-A-Life also refers clients for community resources such as housing, Medicaid, and local church support.
We believe that abortion is often the result of a lack of resources, education, and support. Sav-A-Life offers practical, compassionate ways to remove the barriers that cause women to choose abortion and provide the opportunity for every client who walks through our doors to make positive choices for themselves and for their unborn children.
The real story of Sav-A-Life is best told through the lives and testimonies of the clients who we serve each day. These clients have made life-changing decisions as a result of their experience at Sav-A-Life. The following are true stories, told by real Sav-A-Life Pregnancy Test Center Clients:
"My name is Rita and I was born in Honduras. When I was 15 years old I was a victim of sexual abuse, an experience that marked my life and took me to the most uncertain, sad, and hardest moments of my life to the point of attempting decisively to take my life away through two different ways (I cut my veins and took some chemicals at the same time). After this, I was admitted at a psychiatric place for rehabilitation from my depression and many other things that I got myself into in my anguish of destiny. Without any authorization from my parents, I simply fled from that place, that life, and my country.
I got asylum here in the states because of my really bad situation and the American government supported me to get admitted at another psychiatric rehabilitation place for a treatment that helped me to face the reality of the rape without falling completely in pieces.
After this, with the desire of having a family, I met my children's dad, the only man I've ever voluntarily met. We have 5 children today. My oldest son André was born during those crazy years of my life and probably because of that he was born with a brain condition that has presented crucial moments in his life and it could be fatal - a reason why I ask you all to pray for God's healing and protection for my little one.
It was during my fifth pregnancy when I had another crisis with the dad's children and I went to the Pregnancy Test Center (Sav-A-Life) in Vestavia looking for help. God gave me the opportunity to feel loved by all the people from there and I had the opportunity to meet also Nana Barrero who, with love, took me the next day to her house. Between tears of anguish and joy I asked for forgiveness of my sins and accepted Lord Jesus in to my heart. Since that day at that living room, and forever, I want to follow and obey Lord Jesus. I started attending a church where I have found a true family that has cared for me. I have experienced God's love, peace and provision. I want to live my life to serve Him, to learn more about Him and teach my children His ways. I want to be a good testimony for their dad, so that though my testimony, he can experience the blessings of accepting Jesus and eternal life."
